You will note that this Report has dropped the Underwriters' Retardant Report ^R2717-23 and the following have been included, 1) Floor and Cdiling Construction, Report 4R2717-26 or UL Design #13 for 1- Hours. 2) Under Floor and Ceiling Construction, Report #R2717~27 or UL Design #69 for 2 Hours, 3) Partition System using 5/8" Firestop vinyl clad with the Neslo "Z" stud, covered under Report #T-2lj06 for 2 Hours. Destroy the old Approval Report #6280. Additional copies of this sheet are available upon request. THIS APPROVAL REPORT SUPERSEDES AND TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER REPORT DATED FEB RUARY 6, 1959, AND REPORT 6280 DATED DECEMBER 28, 1962, THEREBY REMOVING AND MAKING IN VALID THE APPROVAL REPORT AS DATED FEBRU ARY 6, 1959, AND REPORT 6280 AS DATED DECEM BER 28, 1962. The Committee on Compliance has reviewed the data submitted on August 11, 1958, together with new test re ports submitted on July 19, 1963, for compliance with the Southern Standard Building Code and submits its Report as follows: DESCRIPTION: Bestwall Firestop is a gypsum wallboard having a spe cial core formulation under a patented process in which in combustible glass fibers and unexpanded vermiculitc have been added to the gypsum core. It is manufactured in M" and %'' thicknes s. Firestop is made generally in 4 ft. wide sheets with t; )ered edges and a finished wall or ceiling includes the convt tional tape and cement joint system. It is also ava'lable \ h a square edge or tongue and grooved edges and also in ft. and 4 ft. widths for use as an un finished fire ratet assembly as a garage wall or a backup for further treatment as acoustical tile, etc. USES: Wall, floor and ceiling assemblies, for load bearing and non-load bearing with fire retardant properties. Framing consists of metal or wood studs, bar joist or wood joist for load bearing and non-load bearing assemblies and no frames for non-load bearing partitions. SUBSTANTIATING DATA: 1. All Bestwall Firestop sheets shall carry a face marking in the center of the board, repeated every five feet (or %") Bestwall Firestop Type "X". (E)--In view of the Fire Hazard Classification show ing a 10 to 15 Flame Spread Rating, %" Bestwall Firestop shall not be limited under the South ern Standard Building Code other than as above in A, B, C and D. (F)--Height of non-load bearing frameless partition shall be limited to 12 ft. Maximum height of frame partitions shall be governed by rules on frame material (including section) used. (G)--Joints may be taped or untaped depending on the erectors desires since the taping of joints has no effect on the retardant ratings. COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS: The Committee recommends that %" thick Bestwall Firestop uses and limitations as set forth in this Report be approved by the Southern Building Code Congress. LIMITATIONS: That Bestwall Firestop shall be made under Under writers Inspection Service, listed by Underwriters Labora tories and carry the U. L. Manifest on the end bundling tape. PERIOD OF APPROVAL: This Approval or Certificate of Compliance will be in effect as long as the product "Bestwall Firestop" is listed by Underwriters Laboratories and manufactured under Under writers' Inspection Service. Should any revision or changes of method of construction occur, this Approval shall terminate. This, however, is not to be construed to preclude any new submittals. L. P. (E)--In view of the Fire Hazard Classification show ing a 10 to 15 Flame Spread Rating, %" Bestwall Firestop shall not be limited under the South ern Standard Building Code other than as above in A, B, C and D. (F)--Height of non-load bearing frameless partition shall be limited to 12 ft. Maximum height of frame partitions shall be governed by rules on frame material (including section) used, j (G)--Joints may be taped or untaped depending on the erectors desires since the taping of joints has no effect on the retardant ratings. COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS: The Committee recommends that %" thick Bestwall Firestop uses and limitations as set forth in this Report be approved by the Southern Building Code Congress.
