The PFA-5 is the latest development in large cast iron boiler technology. Designed specifically for forced draft firing, the boiler is available with light oil, gas, or combination gas-light oil burners and operates with an efficiency of over 80%. Forced draft boilers in addition to increased operat ing efficiencies require much less space than con ventional boilers of comparable size and eliminate the need for external draft devices such as a high chimney or mechanical draft equipment-the PFA-5 features: compact, light weight, wet base design; water flow water flow no separate base or combustion chamber; provision for multiple tankless heaters; eighteen sizes rang ing from 620 MBH to 3,430 MBH gross output; and the availability of factory assembled section assem blies. The PFA-5 is further enhanced by two exclusive innovations-the use of elastic compound for seal ing and the use of a built-in thermal pump for im proved internal circulation-which helps make this boiler a leader in both performance and depend ability. elastic .sealant compound . greater heat ' transfer fire wall- thermal pump-Incorporated into the design of the PFA-5 is a thermal pump --water and steam boilers-which im proves internal circulation insuring good steam quality and maximum tankless heater capacity. The thermal pump op erates by causing heat transfer to be greater on one side of the boiler than on the other and thereby causing an up ward flow of water on the side where transfer is greater and downward on the side where transfer is lower. (A patent application is pending). hydraulic assembly tool is an easy-to-use tool which allows the assembler to cut as much as two-thirds off the normal section assembly time! It replaces the installer's arm and wrench with ten tons of hydraulic pressure upon each end of the three full-length draw-up rods. Sections are pressed together tightly and evenly, practically eliminating the chance of cocked nipples-the major cause of installation problems! ^\ JjOcocwj ood Dui<| elastic sealant-lt is imperative that forced draft boilers be absolutely gas tight. This quality is at tained with the PFA-5 by sealing all section joints and canopy connections with elastic compound. (Covered by a pending patent application). The sealant requires less installation time than gasket ing methods and provides a superior airtight seal, which will maintain its integrity over the years. 00385 pressure fired (forced draft) for light oil, gas/light oil, and gas burners 1 - jacket - smartly-styled of sturdy steel in sparkling brown and beige color combination. 2- optional acoustically treated jacket extension-matches jacket and has removable front panel for ready access to burner and control. 3- control-mounted on front of boiler for ease of main tenance and adjustment. 4- burner plate-designed for a compressed insulation seal between the burner plate and the front section. A round, shutter-type sight glass is incorporated into the burner plate for flame observation. 5- burners-three models available (light oil, gas/light oil, gas) for mounting on boilers. Burners are laboratory tested for clean, efficient firing in all PFA-5 boilerburner units. 6- tappings_4" supply (top) and 3" return (bottom) lo cated in both front and back sections. 7- flue canopy-aluminized steel construction with re inforcing channels and welded seams. Access for clean ing canopy is provided through small doors in side of the canopy. 8- water heater-internal tankless type with finned cop per tubing. Unique arrangement permits flexibility in meeting domestic hot water requirements ranging from 8 to 64 gpm. 9- boiler sections-are ruggedly constructed of cast iron and feature vertical flue design with large 7-inch top nipple port. Off-center location of nipple port speeds up circulation; projecting studs extract maximum heat from combustion gases. Sections are water tested at 125 psi (2Vi times rated capacity of relief valve). Accessible from left side for cleaning. Sections are sealed against combustion leakage with an elastic sealant. 10 - insulation - heavy glass fiber insulation prevents wasteful heat loss, keeps jacket cool. 11-wet base construction--provides extra heat-absorbing wet base. Waterways completely surround combustion space. pressure relief door_(not shown)-located in back sec tion. Provided for relief of excessive pressures in the combustion space. The door also contains a sight port for flame observation. 00386 AMERICAN STANDARD PIL '4BINC & HE A1 INC DIVISION1 PFA-5 ratings t * 'r boiler number* boiler H.P. frou l=B=R output (Btuh) net l=B=R rating steem (*q. ft.) steam (Btuh) water (Btuh) l=B=R burner cepaeity tight oil fit UPh) <mbh) SM presume required (inches . water . column) heating surface (ft*) net firebox volume <ft) pressure In fireboxr water l=B=R finches content vent water full diemeter column) Ohs.)
