AGC is a national construction trade association representing more than 26,000 construction firms with chapters and members in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. AGC chapters and members understand the importance of protecting our environment while advancing economic development. Mr. Wheeler is an experienced and well-qualified leader on environmental and construction matters, having served in both Congress and the Executive Branch on such issues. During his tenure as a congressional aide, Mr. Wheeler served as majority staff director, minority staff director, and chief counsel at the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. In addition, he worked at EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics during the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations. Over his professional career, Mr. Wheeler has demonstrated that he possesses the leadership and collaborative qualities needed to be a successful leader within the EPA. He recognizes that by working together, the regulated community and the agency can achieve results in further advancing and balancing environmental stewardship with economic development. AGC looks forward to working with Mr. Wheeler on the important issue of environmental stewardship in the construction industry and continuing our positive working relationship with the EPA. As such, we urge the Senate to quickly confirm his nomination. Sincerely, Stephen E. Sandherr Chief Executive Officer Associated General Contractors of America Sierra Club v.
