Service a re ? o rt(^ )o n tetram eth y l lead (TM L) in gasoline covering -
test.w ork conducted at California refinery and service station loca- f
tions. Based on this, and on e arlier w ork conducted and reported
by D r. Kehoe, we conclude that tetram ethyl lead and tetraethyl
lead (T E L ) a re no different fro m the standpoint of th e ir possib le
effects on the' public health.
Some of our oil refining c u sto m e rs would like to be fre e to in c re a s e
the concen tratio n of T M L in gasoline. We th e re fo re p ro p o se to r a is e the m axim um p e rm issib le TM L level, on a g ra m s of elem ental lead
p e r gallon of g'asoline b asis, to the sa m e value as is c u rre n tly in
effect for TEL. Also, we propose that the sam e m axim um concen
tratio n of elem en tal lead p e r gallon of gasoline should apply to
m ix tu res and reaction products of TM L and T E L . The c u rre n t and proposed m ax im u m concentrations of lead alkyls in gasoline a re as
