Can you see if we would be able to host a Water Quality Standards academy in Lincoln, ME. It would greatly help our program!

Jim, as I mentioned, yesterday I spoke with Heather Duncan (R7) and they are waiting for ERA headquarters to pull the plug, R7 is fully supportive of bringing the training to Lincoln and providing R7 staff support for the training. Any headquarters nudging you can do is appreciated. The headquarters person to nudge would be:
Shari Barash 202-566-0996 Barash.Shari@epa.gov
They did just announce two sessions in DC. When I went in 2015, it cost approximately $2,500. We have a large list of folks that want/need this training, Doug could come up with some pretty impressive cost savings numbers if we had this in Lincoln and were only responsibie for providing the meeting facility.
Thanks! -Ryan

Hi Ann, I apologize for the delay in response to your inquiry about an On-the-Road WQSA in Nebraska. We are planning to discuss the possibility/feasibility of an On-the-Road Academy after we complete the December session of the Academy next week. We should be able to get back to you with more details before the end of December.
Please also note that as long as resources allow, we plan to have two sessions of the WQSA in the Washington, DC area in spring 2018. For the most recent information on upcoming Academy sessions and registration, folks can visit our website, https://www.epa.gov/wqs-tech/water-quality-standards-academy. We expect registration for the spring 2018 sessions to open in early 2018.
Thanks, Melissa

Sjust spoke with my counterpart at NDEQ, John Bender. They are anxious to get an academy roiiing sometime in the next year. Anything they can do to help they will do. We did an academy in Lincoin about a decade ago and i taught part of a module; they have the facilities (free) and nearby hotels, etc. Great central location for the Region and NDEQ welcomes all tribes! In the past, HQs has also provided staff resources to teach the modules, so R7 does not have to fill all of those roles. Cc'ing HQs folks who work the academy planning, etc. to get their input. Thanks, Ann

Hi Ann,
Ryan Chapman (supervisor under Marty Link at NDEQ) has been advocating for HQ to bring the Water Quality Standards Academy to Lincoln, NE...and it looks like he's making some headway! In order to pull it off, we'd need to be willing to commit some R7 staff resources to assist with the training. I already warned Ryan that I'd want to include our R7 triba! partners in the short list of local attendees; he said that wasn't a deal breaker for him (wooti).
Any initia! thoughts/reactions from you? What can we do to follow up with Heather at HQ and build on our support of bringing the training more local for R7?

Thanks Heather.
Two things: 1) I contacted Heather Goss in D.C. about the possibility of doing a Water Quality Standards Academy class here in Lincoln. She mentioned that they are willing to travel if they can get some instructional heip from the Region and space funding. ! think we can cover the room and figured I'd start with you at R7 - since you're our favorite! Heather G. mentioned 60 to 70 people are ideal though they have done 45 to 90 in the past. She also might mention it to Karen Flournoy. We are thinking spring at the earliest.

I've made myself a note to call you on Friday. Sounds like that may work best for both of us.
Enjoy the picnic and the field time!
