J-M Manufacturing Co., Inc. To From C. G. Stelchek, Denison E. E. Wang, HQ Internal Correspondence Date: June 19, 1986 i fI "" PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT JMMC-32 Copies Subject J. T. Armstrong, Denison,T. E. Lohman, HQ, C. J. Chen, HQ, Wilfred Wang, HQ . NEW STRICTER ASBESTOS STANDARDS The B.S. OSHA has adopted stricter asbestos standards to protect workers from exposure to asbestos. The new standards will require employers to limit workers' exposure to airborne asbestos to 0.2f/c.c. for an 8-hour TWA. (The current PEL is 2f/c.c.) The new standards . will become effective this summer. Employers will have to take a number of steps, such as providing respirators and protective clothing for employees exposed above the new limit, posting signs and labels identifying asbestos, and maintaining employees' medical and exposure records, to meet the new, tougher standards. The most recent industrial hygiene survey of your plant has revealed that two out of 31 (i.e., 6.45T) airborne asbestos samples tested -were in excess of 0.2f/c.c. To keep the airborne asbestos concentrations low, plant employees should strictly follow the established work practice guidelines and maintain good housekeeping. In addition, the performance of local exhaust systems needs to be frequently checked and improved (if necessary). JUN. 2 0 1S68 D 001822 SC-JMM-3190
