No. No._____________ SHEET 1 1 DATE 8/26/83 SHEET DATE Communication The WTU has been instructed to call the "C" Chlorine control room if a high pH is sustained on the Plant "B" and "C" process sewer prior to pH control equipment (outfall 018A). If the/ cannot control the pH in spec, after the pH control equipment (outfall 018B) they will notify th ir Shift Supervisor who will call the Plant "C" Shift Supervisor. Upon receiving such a phone call, "C" Chlorine and/or the Plant "C" Shift Supervisor should notify the Caustic control room and each other. In general/ whoever of the three receives a call from someone outside of Plant "C" (WTU/ "B" Shift Supervisor/ or Shift Superintendent), th y shoufd notify the other two parties. The notification should take place immediately hot after surveying your own area first. Both Chlorine and Caustic should be looking for the problem simultaneously. Investigation Among other things, the Lead Operator should have the following checked: 1. Are recovery sumps overflowing? 2. Check lines entering decanter sump. 3. Check process sewer trenches in sulfate and dissolver area. 4. Is east cell liquor, hot water, or boilout water tanks overflowing? 5. What did operators do recently? Could they have caused a spill or loss? 6. Check al_l Bird diversion lines. 7. Check green painted sewer openings throughout area. 8. Check all circulating pump seal flush pan drains. Feedback After finding or not finding the problem, report back to the Chlorine Lead Operator and the Shift Supervisor. Completely report the nature of the spill (amount, strength, route, etc.). If nothing is found, ask for further instructions. Note times involved including initial call, and when problem was found and corrected.
