Dear Mr, Lewis:-
Khanka very much for your letter of June 12th with its further information con cerning the proposal of installing a proportioning device in the Hast St. Louis plant of the Socony Vacuum Oil Company, I am very glad that Mr* Schell has been able "to handle this matter temporarily and with every hope of disposing of it permanently.
With respect to the activities of safety engineers In various parts of the country, I am quite In agreement with your suggestion that additional men be used to fill in during the period of stress. 2 do not feel that we should be justified in diminishing the regular activities at this time, and If we oan get through the period of excessive stress without taking on additional personnel permanently* it would be highly advantageous. Moreover,
as I have indicated to you previously, 1 think is is
very good practice to keep as many as possible of the field representatives familiar in some measure -with the safety activities of the Corporation, 3?hls can best be done, I believe, by making use of them from time to time as their services are required, I think we should have no difficulties In doing this since everyone has agreed that there are no activities which are e? greater importance to the Corporation than the work of its safety representatives.
Very truly you*o.
