G. Jefferson, Chairman of DuPont yesterday. WILMINGTON, Del., Jan. 25 -- The Conoco Chemicals Operations Division will become a unit of the DuPont Company's chemical operations, effective Feb. 1, Chairman Edward G. Jefferson announced today. Conoco's chemicals operations are a division of Conoco Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont. Mr. Jefferson said, "This consolidation will allow us to manage more effectively a group of related businesses and improve our ability to serve the chemicals marketplace." Robert W. Gerwig, president-chemicals operations for Conoco, will continue in that position, reporting to Everett B. Yelton, DuPont's vice president petrochemicals. Conoco's chemicals operations include the Conoco Chemicals Company, Conoco Coal Development Corporation, Continental Carbon Company (Concarb) and interests in chemical subsidiaries and affiliates in the U.S. and aborad. Conoco Chemicals Company is a producer of basic chemicals and petro chemical feedstocks, including ethylene, propylene, benzene, vinyl chloride monomer, polyvinyl chloride resins, "Alfol" alcohols, "Nalkylene" detergent alkylate and CDR flow improver. Continental Carbon produces carbon black, and Conoco Coal Development Corporation is working on projects in coal gas ification and liquefaction.
