He received his post-graduate training in a Naval Hospital and at the University of Michigan. In 1973, Dr. Viola became Board Certified in Occupational Medicine. Dr. Viola received specialized pulmonary training during his post-graduate training at the University of Michigan and during his service in the Navy where he acted as Medical Officer and Director of the Occupational Environmental a Health Service at Pearl Harbor. Dr. Viola joined Ford's Medical Department m 1979 and from 1981 to the present has acted as Associate Corporate Medical Director. Dr. Viola will testify with respect to the state of the art that there is no medical evidence to substantiate the allegation of an increased health risk associated .ith exposure to brake lining debris. The basis for his testimony will include Dr. Nicholson's 1984 NIOSH Study and the 1986 German Study principally authored by Dr. Rodelsperger. Dr. Viola will testify that virtually all of the chrysotile asbestos in brake dust is transformed to nonpathogenic decomposition products during the friction process. The grounds for his opinion include a 1968 study published by the National Center for Urban and Industrial SCF-FORD-0039 I ! i Health, a 1977 study published by the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and papers published by Bendix and General Motors. Or.
