Dear Doctor Lecklider: My reply to your letter of May 21 is tardy because of my absence from ray office for a period and the consequent accumulation of work and correspondence. Having considered the potentialities for the exposure of your workmen to benzene hexachloride, as the result of the use of this material in the manner described, I cannot feel that there is any cause for anxiety in this situation. I should feel that the person who does the spraying should be reasonably cautious in not employing an excess of the spray over that which is adequate for the purpose. Otherwise I would not think that there was much opportunity for difficulty. If this were an oil spray, the situation might well be somewhat different. However, our observations have shown that the dry material in contact with the skin shows very little tendency toward percutaneous absorption, and therefore I do not consider that slight contamination of the clothing is likely to give rise to any significant hazard.
