During the training classes we indicated that the results of the survey would be provided to all crew members on board at the time. Recently the results of the independent lab analysis were received. The full report has been sent to the vessel and we will ask the Master to make the report available to all crew members. At the completion of the monitoring program, a summary report of the findings will be mailed to all vessels. Airborne asbestos levels are measured by drawing a volume of air through a niter and counting the number of fibers that are retained in the filter. All air samples collected on the Fairbanks showed concentrations below the applicable permissible exposure limits (PELs) established by the U.S. Coast Guard of 0.1 fibers/cubic centimeters (f/cc) and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) PEL of 0.2 f/cc. These samples were also below the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommended concentration of 0.01 f/cc for general occupancy. On board the S/S Arco Fairbanks 20 samples were taken and analyzed to determine the presence of airborne fibers. Samples were taken from both working and living spaces.
