A. Harvey of the Standard Oil Company at Brunswick, Georgia, and make arrangements to examine Mr at his home in Kingsland, Georgia. You will please observe the suggestion on my part that our doctor shall not in the first Instance be known a.s a representative of the Ethyl Gasoline Corporation, and what Mr. Harvey has done to prevent any connection of ours being disclosed by reason of the first contact. Most likely there will be no reason for our representative to refer in any manner to whom he does actually represent so that there will be no expressed or implied deception. ' Bear Mr* Violettes - I regret not haring earlier replied to your letter of the 3rd about a former employee of the Standard Service Station at Kingslancl, Georgia, The reason for the delay is that I took this letter with as to Houston thinking I would have the opportunity of seeing you and : discussing the matter, but one thing or another prevented ay having this opportunity. . We have had but relatively few cases where filling station non have claimed to have suffered by reason of handling Ethyl Gasoline, but in each instance where a d a i s bee been made we have arranged with the company whose brand of Ethyl Gasoline t o being handled to make an appoint ment to have the party making the claim examined by one of our doctors, with the understanding that for the purposes of the examination the doctor would presumably be representing our customer and not the Ethyl Gasoline Corpora tion* Our early experience led us definitely to the opinion that if our doctor was introduced as or became known as our doctor that for some un accountable reason this magnified the importance of the case in the mind of the claimant* If M r * 4 j m ^ t d - l i allow it and either you or the Standard Service Station desire i t T a n ^ m t h the condition above stated, we would be pleased to have one of our doctors make an examination of Mr* Butler at such time and place as would be most convenient for Mr. Butler-- and of course without expense on your part or that of the Standard Service Station for the services of such doctor or his expenses in connection therewith. : Any doctor we sent would be one who has had a number of years experience in connection with metallic poisoning and is particularly fitted, we think, to diagnose a ease of lead intoxication* . He has represented to Ilrs.^HI^I that, the doctor lives in Savannah and is a friend of his who has become interested in the case on account of hearing about it from him and that the doctor is going to make the trip from Savannah to Florida some time soon and wishes to make a free examination cf her son on account of what he has heard about it. She has agreed to this examination and it will be all right for you to send a doctor at any time. If you had rather not have the examination made on this basis, please advise and I will have Mr. Sheffield state the true facts to Mrs Mr. Sheffield reports that Mr. is somewhat improved, his mind and general physical conditions appearing to be much better. Dear Sir: In connection with your letter of November 25rd, regarding personal disability of c n f o r m e r employe of the Standard Service Station, Kingslsnd, Georgia, and who is attributing his illness to lead poison. This whole proposition has been thoroughly dis cussed in this office, as well as with our General Counsel, and it has been decided that the advisable thing to do is for you to arrange to have your doctor examine Mr. Butler. I ail attaching hereto copy of a letter, dated December 6th, from our agent at Brunswick, Georgia to our Savannah, Georgia manager, which is self-explanatory and from which I think you will understand that your connection in the matter, at least for the present, will not be known. . If you will arrange to have your doctor report to Mr. A. A. Harvey, our agent at Brunswick, Georgia, Mr. Harvey will arrange to drive him out to Kingslsnd, which is only a short distance and see that he is given every assistance possible. .
