As discussed today by phone, EPA needs to review complete copies of final reports in your possession or control from all of the studies cited in 3M's reports or presentations made to EPA, and any other relevant information in 3M's possession or control, on sulfonated and carboxylated perfluorochemicals, with initial focus on PFOS. The requested information includes health effects studies, environmental effects studies, environmental fate studies and information, and human and environmental exposure studies and information, including monitoring. If final reports are not available, we request that you clarify the status of any ongoing studies with regard to projected completion date and provide us with the latest and most complete version of any preliminary reports in your possession or control.
We request that you provide us with the above information on PFOS within 10 working days of today (April 24, 2000) and follow that with chemical specific packages of information in your possession or control on the other perfluororchemicals included in Table 1 of 3M's March 1, 2000, white paper on "sulfonated perfluorochemicals in the environment" (eg, POSF, FOSA, N-EtFOSA, N-MeFOSA, N-EtFOSE alcohol, N-MeFOSE alcohol, and PFOA). As we discussed, the information on these additional chemicals will be provided in chemical specific increments as they become available with completion of the full submission within 30 working days of today (May 19, 2000).
In order to maintain the integrity of the existing record, please submit all information as supplements to your company's prior submissions under TSCA 8(e) numbers 373/374. As always, any CBI must be submitted in accordance with applicable procedures. If you have any questions with regard to the submission procedures, please contact Terry O'Bryan (202-260-3483).
If you have any general questions regarding this request, feel free to contact me by email or
