To Sir Neville STACK A.I.A. 68, Gloucester Place, GB - LONDON WIH 3HL. Dear Sir Neville, . . Re : Labelling request by European Distributor of Union Carbide Products. " .............. j ' " --------- ----- " I refer to your letter of October 11th, ref. AIA/8/PAC about the above mentioned case. ,This matter has now finally been settled to the satis faction of both EAC and the distributor, through the efficient assistance of Mr. Schwermer and Mr. Mohr (Switzerland). I had asked, as you know, Mr. Schwermer to help me locate the U.C.C. distributor, in the wrong belief that it was a German one. After all, it appeared to be a Swiss firm, which explains Mr. Mohr's intervention. As I do not know in how far you have been kept informed by AIA/NA about this issue, I enclose a copy of my recent letter to the distributor (Mr. Dambach, Grace Industrial Chemicals, Inc., Lausanne) which does nothing but confirm the information already given by telephone to Mr. Dambach by Mr. Schwermer and Mr. Mohr. However, if the matter can be considered as settled this side of the ocean (the distributor dropped the idea of asking for the St. Andrew's cross to be marked on bags shipped to EEC), coordination of labelling initiatives seemjnecessary at the other end. The manufacturer (Calidria Asbestos, which is, I understand, a subsidiary of Union Carbide Corp.) now intends to pux the OSHA label on bags shipped to EEC. Could not AIA/NA obtain from Calidria to use the EAC label instead, or, if this is not in line with U.S. regulations, to use both labels ? This is of course, as I have pointed out to Mr. Dambach, a matter which lies fully beyond EAC competence. Regards, / Enel. : copy of letter sent to Mr. Dambach, H.E. VANHERLE. JHM 074 30
