Raise the hood; and remove some of the brake fluid fronji the master cylinder. This will prevent fluid from over flowing when the caliper pistons are positioned. 2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. j c. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies. I I . Bottom the caliber piston in the bore by prying the caliper over. i . Remove the rear brake calipers. Support the calipers by tying them up to a suspension component Do not allow the calipers to hang from the pex hose or damage to the hoses may result. i . Remove the brake pads and support springs from the caliper assemblies. 7. Install the new >rake pads, p/n 05011970AB, onto the calipers, f . Lubricate the slide pins and bushings with brake grease, Dow Coming part number G807 or equivalent. j $. Install the caliper to the anchor. \ ' 10. S WPTOM/CONDITION: i ont brake linings w ear prematurely when compared to the wear experienced on the rear ir ake linings. Normally, it is expected that the front brake livings will require replacement aFproximately twice before the rear lining assemblies will need replacement. The a< celerated wear condition can be identified by requiring the front brake linings to be re olaced three to four times before the rear lining assemblies are replaced. NOTE: CORRECT REAR BRAKE ADJUSTM ENT IS A MAJOR FACTOR TO IMPROVE FRONT BRAKE LINING LIFE. IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT FREQUENTLY OPERATED IN A REVERSE DIRECTION W ITH AGGRESSIVE AND COM PLETE BRAKE STOPS TO AUTOM ATICALLY ADJUST THE REAR BRAKES,, THE VEHICLE MUST HAVE A MANUAL REAR BRAKE ADJUSTM ENT PERFORMED EACH 8047 KILOMETERS (5,000 MILES) OF VEHICLE,OPERATION. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE RAM VAN/WAGON SERVICE' MANUAL, GROUP 5, FOR INFORMATION REGARDING REAR BRAKE "ADJUSTM ENT W ITH ADJUSTING TOOL." DIAGNOSIS: Review service history to determine if front brake lining wear has been accelerated, typically 3 to 4 times as often as the rear brake linings. : Raise the vehiclje on a hoist. : Remove all four'tire/wheel assemblies and the rear brake drums.
