Kettering Laboratory Department of Preventive Medicine and Industrial Health College of Medicine University of Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio Dear Doctor Kehoe: Since February, 1965, 260 thermally burned persons have been treated in the Burn Unit at Maricopa County General Hospital. To investigate the effect of tetraethylead absorption in gasoline burns we recently have been measuring the blood and urine lead levels, and urine coproporphyrins? significant excretion of lead has been found. We suspect that acute absorption of lead may very well contribute to the mortality and morbidity. Unfortunately, limitations by the coroner's office have prevented more detailed toxicologic studies. Do you have any information pertaining to the absorption and distribution of tetraethylead or tetramethylead in persons burned with gasoline? Has any experimental work been done along this line?
