Mr. Hance G. Van Beber Controller Chemicals and Fibers Division Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc. P.O. Box 1328 Joplin, Missouri 64801
Dear Mr. Van Beber:
In reply to your letter of July 18 in which you returned our bill for Eagle-Picher's annual assessment for membership in the Lead Industries Association for the year 1972, it is with deep regret that we acknowledge this notice of resignation. Your resignation is effective as of July 20, 1972.
We are perplexed that no one from Eagle-Picher deemed it appropriate until now to notify the Association of this decision to resign, even though you indicate such decision was made last November.
Because of this delay, Eagle-Picher Industries has been carried on the membership rolls of the Association for the first half of 1972. In line with this, I would like to point out that Section 1.05 of the Association's Bylaws (to which Eagle-Picher agreed to be bound when they joined the Association), which Section covers Voluntary Withdrawal, states that:
"...Unless otherwise specified in the notice of withdrawal, such withdrawal shall take effect upon the delivery of such notice, except that such member or associate member, as the case may be, shall continue to be liable for all

amounts assessed or to be assessed against him for expenses of the Corporation incurred prior to such withdrawal's taking effect."
Because of this, I am asking our Assistant Treasurer to revise the bill previously sent you to cover only the first half of 1972. We trust this meets with your favor and hope Eagle-Picher Industries, who have been members in good standing in this Association for many years, will reconsider, or at the very least will rejoin the Association should their interest in lead be resumed.
Sincerely,
JFS:lm
