Keenan in regard tol service station attendant, Full Measure Company, Cincinnati, Ohio. Doc, I donft think there is much to this, for vie have had considerable trouble with Full Mea sure Oil Company and were finally successful in pulling Ethyl Gasoline from their outlets. They now display a sign at one of their stations which reads as follows: "Mo Poison (Lead Treated) Gasoline Sold Here". Dear Harry, Attached hereto please find three photographs which the writer caused to he made showing the sort of unfavorable publicity we are encounter ing from the above marketer. I believe this constitutes a violation of -Article V, rule 25, of the Petroleum Code and if you desire the local committee to act on this matter, I will appreciate hearing from you accordingly. Apart from the reference to pbison as indicated on the photograph, the firm has in its employ a station attendant named Henry Schwartz, who claims to have suffered from lead poisoning. Without disclosing my employment I have talked with this man who displays a badly discolored and spotted left arm. The affected section between the elbow and wrist has three individual areas about the size of a silver dollar which show the effect of some local infection. He told me that his personal physician, Dr. Davis Lillard, 4239 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio, has been treating him and that as he per sonally holds an accident policy with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company he has received compensation from them and has been examined by their Dr. E.A. Grad, 1506 Chase Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio;that further, the Ohio Industrial Commission has received a report of this matter. In the course of my talk with Schwartz he told me he had been employ ed as a station attendant by the Full Measure Oil Company about one year. He admits having first noticed the infection after he cut his hand operating a grease lift, that he is not certain whether it was dirty oil or gasoline which caused the infection, nor if it was gasoline, which grade is responsible. In view of this statement I don't feel we are involved at least so far as he is concerned. I do understand, however, that his employers are assisting his claim with the State Industrial Commission, are naming Ethyl Gasoline as being at fault, and are making oral statements to the effect that they discontinued its sale because of its health hazard. In line with Mr.Walter's instructions at the recent Division meeting I am passing this matter on to you so that our Medical Department may be inform ed as to the facts. Kit 0021740 N22774.01
