A concern within our industry is the impact of asbestos control regulations on the use of asbestos containing gaskets and packings. I understand your association has done a study on this subject and would be able to answer two pertinent questions: 1. Does normal handling of commercially available asbestos containing gaskets and packing release enough asbestos fibers to constitute a hazard? 2. Do satisfactory substitutes for these materials exist? Are they more costly and do they have limitations? If you have done such a study and can share your results with us, would someone from your organization be willing to present a paper at this conference?
