Membership The Membership Committee consisting of Messrs. Nantz (chair man) , Scott, and Williams, having been appointed by Mr. Schuyler by CMA 015530 PC131-5 1-4 `V I Mr. Williams emphasized it was clear the membership id *e i jor 'Y trongly favored an active program of research, rather than a stand-by existence merely designed for reacting to problems that flight arise. Many mentioned the environment and ecology -- mainly olid waste problems, i.e., incineration, reclamation, re-use -- as t'ne area most justifying current attention, with flammability and ,.eatherability less prominently cited. Surveillance of imports and legislative developments and the possibilities for improving public acCeptance and appreciation of plastics were also among the general interests. There was complete agreement that MCA1s program should be planned so as to complement that of SPI and any others having HXe objectives. Mr. Williams indicated the task group was not ready to present specific recommendations, and Mr. Schuyler asked that their study be continued toward this objective. Mr. Reese suggested at tempting to define what kinds of information are needed as the basis for selecting program projects. 6. Epidemioloqic Study (Acroosteolvsis) The secretary reported MCA has a continuing contract with the University of Michigan, funded by a group of companies with in terests in polyvinyl chloride in support of an Acroosteolysis Reg istry and Consultation Center to follow the history of employees examined in the extensive program conducted earlier. Viola of the Regina Institute for Cancer Research, Rome, Italy, has pub lished findings of cancer inducement in experimental animals from inhalation of vinyl chloride monomer vapor. Arrangements have been made through MCA to have Dr. Viola visit with interested members of MCA's Occupational Health Committee for further elaboration of his experimental data. 7. MCA Liaison to ANSI Committees A60, Z26, IS0/TC61 Mr. Schuyler announced he would confer with the secretary to designate liaison representatives to be named from among the con siderable number of candidates nominated by various companies. 8.. Commercial Standard CS147-47 - "Colors for Molded Urea Plastics" The secretary reported having written to the National Bureau of Standards on March 1 to request continuation of this stand ard after having been assured by two companies it is serving a use ful purpose commercially. Avery (last year's chairman), Temple, and P, J. Weaver (Goodrich) as the other members.
