Among such products were gaskets made of a new material, GP/duroid 7102, manufactured by Rogers Corp. of Rogers, CN. The gasket material is described as "a homogeneous blend of chloroprene latex and reinforcing materials that Rogers is not disclosing while its patent application is being considered (see Figure 3)." Also introduced at the Design Engineering Show was Intumastic 285, an asbestos-free, water-based mastic used for fire-proofing grouped electrical cables and cable trays, for either interior or exterior use. It is manufactured by the Fire proofing Products Division of Carboline Company, St. Louis. Approved by Factory Mutual Re search Corp. at a dry Aim thick ness of `/i.-inch (one inch equals 2.54 centimeters), the mastic is semi-flexible, permitting the fireprotected cable to be bent and shaped after installation. The mate rial may be applied by spray, trow el, roller, or hand-gloving tech niques (see Figures 4 and 5). Johns-Manville, headquartered in Denver, has introduced a com plete line of insulation and jacket ing systems designed for hard-tofit pipe fittings, tanks, and vessels. The complete system for fittings uses the j-M Hi-Lo Temp Insert, with a temperature range of sub zero to 500 F (260 C), "with high energy conservation efficiency," in connection with J-M's Zeston pre-molded covers. The system offers protection against tempera ture loss through the use of pre molded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) covers in such shapes as elbows and tees of various sizes (see Fig ure 6). The J-M Du-All and PVC jack eting systems are designed to pro tect against severe weather or envi ronmental conditions. Zeston pipe and tank insula tion, combining a film facing with rigid fiber glass board, is a highdensity flexible insulation and jacketing system for larger diame ter pipes and cylindrical tanks and vessels. It is termed by J-M as being "particularly useful for in creasing the thickness of existing insulation without having to re move previous jacketing, or to match the outside diameter of ex isting coverings." Zeston heat transfer com pounds are designed to promote the transfer of heat from its source to process equipment, as in a pipe tracing system. J-M's new Thermo-12 pipe and block insulation is a molded cal cium silicate industrial insulation for high temperature applications. It resists fire and water, while per forming to 1,500 F (815 C). It is recommended by J-M for use in power generation and process in dustries, on indoor and outdoor piping and equipment. U.S. Coatings Collaborative, Inc., Chelsea, MA, manufactures a pro tective coating designed to be sprayed or brushed over asbestos covered walls and ceilings, as well as asbestos-coated steel work (see Figure 7). The product, Asbestos Guard Fiber Fix (719), is a self priming elastomeric protective coating designed to encapsulate loose asbestos fibers into a seam less, water-resistant membrane. Q Figure 7 shows the application of a spray-on coating of Asbestos Guard Fiber Fix (719), a fire-retardant synthetic rubber compound, over the pent house celling of a high-rise apartment complex In Cambridge, AM. It co>' * a previously sprayed Insulatlve^coustlcal material that was extremely h. i and had a high asbestos content Encapsulating the old material with this product made removal unnecessary.
