We strongly support the ambitious PFAS restriction proposai presented in January 2023 by five EU Member States. Attached with this email, you can find the results of a comprehensive in-house study on PFAS alternatives for professional equipment (PPE) we finalized recently. In this study, we analyzed numerous European tenders and their required functionality standards. We demonstrate that PFAS-free alternatives are available for a prevalent majority of PPE uses. Therefore, we urge you to continue demanding the EU Commission to include as few derogations for PFAS PPE uses as possible. I should point out that we will deliver any insights gained from the above-mentioned study to the ongoing ECHA consultation on the PFAS restriction. Finally, I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that the European Parliament is now also calling for an ambitious PFAS restriction. In its final report on the EU Textile Strategy, voted on June 1st, the Parliament states that "PFAS are widely and commonly used in the textile industry" and call for "stringent regulation of PFAS in textiles." We call on your REACH Competent Authority to favor a PFAS ban which reflects this high level of urgency.
