Mayo, Executive Managing Editor of all the AMA publications, on Monday of this week. This gave me an opportunity to discuss fully with him the contents of your letter to me and to clarify the situation fully. Mr. Mayo and the General Editorial Board object to the idea of a special issue of the type of supplement that ACTA Medica Scandinavica produces from time to time. They are quite willing to add extra pages to a regular issue in order to accommodate the papers of the meeting on lead poisoning. Mr. Mayo is of the opinion that he has already sent you a quotation of the possible prices that might be involved if 20 or 40 additional pages were to be added to a regular number. Naturally the number of pages in a particular issue will be dependent upon the decision after we finally receive all the edited manuscripts. We will then be in a pretty good 001S400 / Robert A. Kehoe, M. D 2- August 13, 1970 position to estimate the size of that issue and to give you some information as to how many pages in excess you may encounter. If it is not done in this way, it will be necessary to split your conference into parts and publish parts at intervals. I doubt if you would like this solution, as I surely don' t. I believe you will also agree that the sooner we can get all the material together and form some ideas about it, the better it will be, since the conference is already a good many months past.
