The final plant development work cm the -467-0 type of sine yellow constated of the following aisee&aneost mattegtt*
1* Decreased amount of treating agant (Wacollne) to meet the "combined water* specification of tho Bureau ef Aeronautics,
2* Decreased daSBltl, % 3. Production as a wet*tits if X-54X-&, oral
4. Manufacture on the -$44-0 formula tho loot thrae problems being undertaken for increased economy.
3!i previous work on this type of sine follow was reported
la XX-43-1&*
1 The Bureau of Aeronautics specifications for sine follow
stipulated that tho pigment should oontain a maximum of 8 percent "combined water*. the treating agent in -467-0 actually decomposed in tho determination of eeaiblnod water, thereby throwing this waive above the specification limit, the treating agent (Wecoline) was decreased from its original valve of 3 percent to 1.7 percent in the replacement female K-1850 and this change permitted certification
.of -467-0. 2 The lower amount of treating agent not only enabled $.467*3 to seet specifications hut also reduced its cost slightly. A further step in this direction was attenpted h$ a chromate reduc tion in tho formula. About thirty hatches were struck with on approximate $ percent decrease in the aneunt of chrome liquor. Shis change in formulation still allowed the sine yellow to meet the sul fate and chromate specifications of a maximum of 3 percent BO% and a minimum of 41 percent CO*. A mix cf several plant batches of low-chrome materiel was actually made for a new standard, but this was not adopted because of declining Interest in this type of sine yellow.
3. ismTMJsrnm Tbs -$41-D formula was originally set up as a lew-ehrems
modification of T-232-B. This formula was never actually employed for the production of -232-3 since material made by it contained excessive amounts of sulfate. An attempt was made te atrike -467-3 on the -541-0 formula with a slight inoreass in chrome to reduce the sulfate content to below 3 percent SO3 . This formulation was

wae attempted because It gave potentially greater savings than toe regular 8-407-B formula with 4mt m><I chrome. Of tbs five batches struck on tbs formula, however, two contained too much sulfate and m farther work was undertaken.

formula, which offered a substantial east reduction, or any
-4e7-0 development vas undertaken because of toe trend toward
ho tow-sulfate type of sine yellow (T-539-D) for all purposes.
