Vega Subject: Asbestos Gasket Disposal There is still a strong concern about asbestos gaskets and the proper disposal of them after being used. Asbestos gaskets must be handled as asbestos and disposed of properly. It is recommended that while and after removal they be kept wet with water or a light oil, if applicable. Metal surfaced gaskets can be scraped with a proper tool if kept wet. Do not use a buffer or brush. Asbestos bags are available at the Insulation Shop and the Shift Foreman's office. Place any asbestos gaskets or any gaskets that you suspect as asbestos in these marked bags. Deliver the discarded gaskets to the Insulation Shop for proper disposal. If transportation is not available, call the Insulation Shop, Ext. 4323 or 6270, with directions, and someone will pick them up.
