CIMS Number Chrysler Cent Chrysler Cent subject: TO: ALL PERSONNEL MANAGERS ALL PLANT PHYSICIANS ALL SAFETY ADMINISTRATORS PLAINTIFFS | EXHIBIT 1 CHR-158 SUBJECT: ASBESTOS MEDICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS Recent test results indicate that measurable concentrations of asbestos exist, or have probably existed in past employment of certain individuals or groups of individuals. The Asbestos Standard, 29 CFR 190.3)001 indicates that if employee exposure to asbestos is shown to exceed the lower detection limit (0.1 fibers, greater than 5 microns in length, per cubic centimeter of air), the company must provide pre employment, annual, and separation medical examinations to all exposed employees. The standard states that such examin ation shall include, as a minimum, a history to elicit symptomology of respiratory disease, pulmonary function tests to include forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume at 1 second (FEV 1.0), and a chest roentgenogram. Recent investigations and technical information indicate that any employee who has worked with or removed asbestos insulation, or any employee who has removed, performed maintenance on, or machined asbestos brake linings or clutches, would likely have been exposed to some measurable airborne asbestos levels. In the absence of negative monitoring data, it should be assumed that if employees have performed any of these types of jobs that they have been exposed to measurable concentrations of asbestos.
