A portion of a 5' diameter steel tank was found to be covered by asbestos during demolition activities this week. A ring of asbestos approximately 2" thick by 3' high surrounds a portion of this tank which went unnoticed during the Ralco clean up activities on the Phase III asbestos removal project because it was burtied in the floor of Building FB-1. Since this tank is exposed to the environment, I requested this waiver. Ralco will complete this one day's removal job as soon as the 72 hour waiting period is up; either Friday, 8/11/89, or Monday 8/14.
