Last week, Dr. Ken Smith of NSF International, Ron McCreedy of Dow Chemical and myself presented this report to the U. S. EPA in Washington, DC. Significant from that meeting: 1) Delivery of the work moves the item to EPA. Industry now has a package to offer should questions arise and we are now lacking in no area of work. 2) U. S. EPA (Peter Cook) openly acknowledged and thanked Industry for work-to-date, citing the work products as useful tools for the agency. 3) Future roles were specifically addressed. I informed the agency of Industry's stance to-date that our work ends here in technical assistance to the agency. Further, our role will specifically not include remediation in the field. I caveated only that should the agency have some specific request, they should make it with the assurance that it will receive serious consideration. Continuing our open communications policy on this project should serve all parties well. I believe you will agree that the meeting itself went extremely well. We are currently in a better position than we have been at any other point in this project. The delivery, however, does mark the beginning of the next phase. Due diligence remains the order. I will continue to advise you of substantive progress. All parties involved within the cooperative Vinyl Institute/Uni-Bell team are to be congratulated on exemplary work on this report and its presentation. I add my personal appreciation as team leader for those same efforts. S. EPA on VCM in Doniphan County's Rural Water District #5. Ken's professionalism and credibility were integral in the positive response we received from the agency. Nina, I noted to Peter Cook of EPA that although we reference NSF's original relationship on this item as contractual, that those obligations ended long ago. NSF's continued presence has stemmed from a true sense of stewardship for VCM as a topic and the PVC water pipe industry in general. For that commitment, I would offer the Association's gratitude. It is my further observation that your participation has not been unnoticed by the U.S. EPA. Again our thanks to Dr. Smith, yourself and the Foundation in general.
