K* 0015519 How to Select Fuel for Gasoline Pressure Appliances M ost Gasoline P ressure Appliances are built to operate properly on any good, fresh, clean m otor gasoline, which m ay be either w hite or colored, provided it does not contain lubricating oil, g rap h ite, E th y l fluid or other lead anti-knock compounds. Such substances rapidly clog appliance generators! M any of the lower priced M otor Gasolines meet these simple requirem ents, and are excellent fuels for Gasoline P ressure stoves, ranges, heaters, camp stoves, lamps, lan tern s, irons, blow torches, etc. Some oil com panies now m ark et, "Special G asoline P ressu re A ppliance F uels," which are shipped from th eir refineries in clean new steel barrels. These fuels, which are plainly identified on our approval lists, can be depended upon to give extra long, trouble free service in gasoline pressure appliances. Do not use glass containers even for pouring gasoline. Store in cool place. Exposure to air, sunlight, and heat causes gasoline to become discolored and form gum s which rapidly clog generators and other im portant parts of the appliance. 2. R est th e sp o u t of th e g aso lin e can on th e m etal funnel, or m etal fount of the ap pliance when filling the fount. 3. Buy a fre s h su p p ly o fte n -- once a w eek during hot w eather. 4. C lean out fount, or tan k , freq u en tly -- once a m onth in hot w eather. If the ap pliance has not been used fo r several m onths, rinse the fount w ith fresh, clean gasoline before usifig. -- - 5. K eep the gas tip open b y cleaning occa sionally w ith the special tip cleaner fu r nished w ith the appliance, or by turning - the valve stem so cleaner needle enters' gas tip. 6. H ow to S elect, Store and H andle G a s o lin e F o r U s e a s F u e l F<yr G asoline P ressu re A p p lian ces 1. Select and use one of the approved brands of gasoline listed in this folder. 2. If none of these brands are available in your locality, purchase a clean, fresh, straight run gasoline from a reliable source. Straight Run Motor Gasolines are usually the lowest priced gasolines sold by oil companies; yet they are good appliance fuels. 3. Do not use any gasoline containing lubricating oils, graphite, ethyl fluid or other lead anti knock compounds. Such substances rapidly clog appliance generators. 4. Some colored gasolines are good appliance fuels; others contain one or more of the compounds mentioned in Par. 3 above. Consult our latest approved list, ask your oil company, or write us direct for advice. 5. Keep gasoline in clean, small, closed metal cans. Do not use glass containers even for pouring gasoline. Exposure to air, sunlight and heat causes gasoline to become discolored and form gums which rapidly clog generators and other important parts of the appliance, 6. Rest the spout of the gasoline can on the metal funnel, or metal fount of the appliance when filling the fount. 7. Buy a fresh supply often--once a week during hot weather. 8. Clean out fount, or tank, frequently--once a month in hot weather. If the appliance has not been used for Several months, rinse the fount with fresh, clean gasoline before using. 9. Keep the gas tip open by cleaning occasionally with the special tip cleaner furnished with the appliance, or by turning the valve stem so cleaner needle enters gas tip. 10.
