Dear Dr. Kehoe:
SUBJECT: Spot tests.
We are enclosing herewith a synopsis of cases reported to us in which lead poison was claimed so you may have a rough idea of the number of tests and their results. We wish now to proceed with spot tests throughout the foundry.
ELECTRICAL BUSHINGS
At the present time we have about fifteen furnace tenders, five of which have already made spot tests. Do you think that if we furnish spot tests of five men ranging from one year's service to seventeen this should cover this unit?

We have about seventeen shake out men, upon which we have had four tests. Will five additional tests be sufficient?
We have twenty-six pourers, ten of which have already submitted spot tests. Will an additional ten be a sufficient number to give us a picture of this unit?
We have about forty-four molders, upon which you have made seven tests. What number do you suggest
we take tests from now?

ft C have about thirty laborers, upon which we have run tests on three. How many additional men should we
1
run tests on? 'We have five men employed in sand opera-
tion. You have a test on one and found that your analy-
sis showed 0.26. Do you think it would be best to run
the other four?

When these tests are made do you want a man's employ ment history to accompany the tests, also, a report of the man's physical condition made by Dr. Perry?
'We just had the Industrial Hygiene Foundation run a dust count which is naturally too high. We are having outside engineers planning on further ventilation. We are now making a survey of industries engaged in like production to ascertain their methods in releav ing the atmosphere of dust and fumes. We have con tacted by correspondence the American Brake Shoe, Ampco, Lead Industries Associates, Walworth Manufacturing Com pany, St, Joseph Lead; if you have any to add to this list, we will appreciate it if you will get in touch with us at once. 7/e believe at least one of these man ufacturers is using a self-skimming covered ladle. We are trying to get more information on it.
Yesterday we purchased a sufficient number of the latest improved respirators that we are going to insist be used by our pourers, furnace tenders, and shake out men. 'We, also, bought a fume and dust sampler.
We will appreciate your usual prompt reply.
Yours very truly,
HRB/imo
