Their verbal remark was that at first glance it looked like chrysotile asbestos; however upon a brief examination under the electron micro scope they were.inclined to gc along with the NJZ' findings. Tney did not put this on paper. as a result of the foregoing, ORF were satisfied that they could establish the necessary facts ar.d submitted their proposal and cost estimate. Having acquainted OHF with HCF one would expect that this knowledge will circumvent them mistaking HF for chrysotile asbestos when working for Lteico and others. It might be wore impressive if they reported their findings at Ltelco without being aware that HCF is involved. Mangan President & Managing Director Dear Sir: AMBIENT DUST SAMPLES - 0.0.F. HOT TOP PREPARATION We acknowledge your letter dated Feb.. 27/74 and have reviewed the sampling locations which were used. At the time of sampling, we were not aware that the Steelmaking Department has been using' two suppliers for the fibre boards and seals. The samples which were shipped were obtained from the north preparation line which used materials from the Ferro Engineering Company. The hot tops which are prepared on the north line are returned lo the north stripping system. Both the Ontario Research Foundation and the New .Tersey Zinc Company received sample specimens which came from the same lino. The collected samples were split in two. It is our intention to repeat the ambient sampling on the south line early next week. The samples will be forwarded according to the previous arrangements. Our concern for asbestos fibre emission applies for all products wnich could contain asbestos-liki: materials. With prior knowledge, both preparation lines would have been sampled and submitted for investigation. Wc arc impressed that without the specific background details it was possible for you to difTcrcntiace between Ferro and 1'oscco materials. Wc appreciate that you have brought the matter to our attention. We are still interested in receiving the report on the samples from the north at the earliest so that wc may compare the O.R.P. data with the N.J.C. results. Cont'd ...
