On this date Jim Harpel and i met with subject to discuss his medical problem of possible asbestosis. Subject stated while working at Armco's Middletown Works, he worked with asbestos 30 to 35 days a year from 1955 to 1964. At Middletown he would work as an in sulator with abestos when they needed him. His primarly job was a pipe fitter. He describe one job was they would take old asbestos and put It into a mixing machine and used the mix material for insulation. He stated asbestos would be floating around as it was put into the mixer. Subject stated his foreman at Middletown was Lewis Kiss (retired), and the present foreman is Bob (could not remember his last name). He said he also worked with Bill Moore, who is now a superintendent. Subject stated his contact with asbestos at the Houston Works has been minimal. He stated from 1966 to 1977' working with it 8 to 16 hours a year, and that was in removing old insulated pipes. Subject has been a supervisor since 1977. When asked what his present plans are, he stated if everything works out with the carcinoma of the liver, since he is only 51> be would like to return to work, if it does not he will seek retirement. Subject knows there is nothing that can be done for the cure of asbestosis. He does feel that he received asbestosis while working at Armco, and he wants to know what we are going to do about it. I told him I would look into it,and try to get back to him by March the 1st even if I did not have anything to report at that time.
