The following information was obtained verbally from Van Anthony unless otherwise noted.
Process Description: Metals, mainly aluminum, are received by truck in chip and scrap form. The aluminum is stored in compartments around the facility. The aluminum chips are loaded onto a conveyor belt, have impurities magnetically removed, are sent through one of two chip dryers and melted in the A Furnace. This process is continuous; 24 hours a day. The other aluminum scrap has lead and steel impurities removed by employees and then are loaded by fork lift into either the B Furnace or C Furnace. These processes are batch processes. After melting, the aluminum is poured into ingots and then shipped to customers.
Staff Interview: Since the last EPA inspection on February 15,2017 Nikkei has installed automated damper systems, automated smoked doors, and implemented an according standard of procedure for the melting processes in the batch melting furnaces at the facility. Nikkei has also installed improved smoke curtains at the continuous melting furnace.

EPA noted that the concerns/problems observed at previous inspections were not observed during this inspection and appeared to be adequately remedied.
