The new plant has two bays, each 90 ft wide by 400 and 600 ft long respee- lively. In addition, it ha$ a 42-ft boring mill, cronea of 25 to 100-ton capacity and a variety of large welding apparatus and machine tools. With these new facil ities, the company expects to work off a backlog of orders that totaled about 150-million ot the close of the war. . As part of plant opening ceremonies, the company exhibited key turbine units that it is currently manufacturing for the Corps of ngineera' McNary Dam plant on the Columbia River. Photo at left shows the adjustable-blade runner for one of 14 turbines that wifi comprise the initial Installation. This number will later be increased to 20 for an ultimate capacity of 2,226,000 hp. These are the highest powered SmithKaplan turbines in the world. Each of the six runner blades weighs 30,000 lb and a complete turbine anil weighs 1000 tons when completely installed.
