Keasbey & Mattison Company Ambler, Pennsylvania Santa Clara, California St. Louis, Missouri Underwriters Laboratories, Inc Label Service
The following information has been released by the Underwriters Laboratories in their listing of label service now approved for "Century" Asbestos-Cement Pipe:
" 'Century,' Class 150, pipe and 'Simplex' couplings in the 4-, 6-, 8-, 10and 12-in. sizes at all plants, and Big 10 (in.) and 'Fluid-Tite,' Class 150 pipe, and 'FLuid-Tite' couplings in the 4-, 6-, and 8-in. sizes.
"Intended for use in public and private waterworks and fire service systems and connections to such systems where the working pressure does not exceed 150 psi, and when installed in accordance with the manufacturer1s instal lation instructions. Service connections not to exceed 3/4 in. for 4-, 6-, and 8-in. diameter pipe and 1 in. for 10- and 12-in. when threaded directly into the wall of the pipe."
Headquarters interprets the above to mean that no label service approval is listed for full diameter 12" Century Pipe with .Simplex coupling or 10" and 12" pipe with the FluidTite coupling in either nominal or full diameter sizes.
They suggest that when in competition with Century Pipe in sizes not carrying Under writers' label that engineers be requested to specify Underwriters' approval in these large sizes not yet approved for label service.
