NIOSH is investigating materials which have been placed in joint compounds to replace asbestos in order to determine if these are hazardous. Two products mentioned are Attapulgite and Wollastonite. Reference was made to the Federal Register of August 15, 1977. Union Carbide has recommended products be labeled to show amount of asbestos contained rather than have asbestos containing products banned. ITEM A.3 - 77 MESA PROPOSED REDEFINITION OF FIBERS There was no new report on the MESA committee activity. The Association's Manufacturing and Mining Committee is monitoring the MESA committee work.
