D, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Cincinnati 19, Ohio Dear Doctor Kehoe: I should like to thank you for your confidential letter of December 20, 1949 with reference to our local medical examiner in your city, and the opinions he has expressed regarding permanent disability resulting from lead intoxi cation. . I am fully avare of this* .and 1;am thoroughly convinced that our examiner's very limited experience in the field of occupational medicine does not Varrant such an expres sion not in concurrence with the generally accepted medi cal opinion and I have heretofore so informed him. Such opinions cause us no little concern and make impressions which are quite difficult for us to erase. Because of the inadequacy of our facilities to accomplish a complete examination of these claimants it has been our usual policy, which has proven quite satisfactory, to refer them for complete physical and clinical examination and opinion as to the resultant disability; however, due to the large number of claims confronting us daily and our limited personnel, one occasionally slips through without such study. I have just recently renewed our efforts to correct the misassignment of these claims and trust that in the future we shall experience no further difficulty. I well know of the activities of certain representatives in behalf of one of your local companies who, as you no doubt know, were as highly critical of the allowance of claims and their medical management during the outbreak of lead intoxica tion a year or two ago as they are now of the final adjustment of these claims.
