Dr. Cralley and his group have completed eight (8) In-plant studies of plants producing Asbestos Textiles. At the present rate studies are being completed, it is anticipated all studies will be completed in 6 to 8 aonths. The nmb<s of years required to acquire mean
ingful data will be approximately twenty-five. This
figure In some plants can be reduced to ten years because records are available for the past fifteen years.

The following articles were reviewed and discussed:
1* "Dangerous Dust" - Scientific American, December, 1964 Volume 211.
2. "Cancer Experts Eye Asbestos Is Alann/Caaco* - Expats Ere Asbestos Perils", by Josephine Robertson. Tbs Plain Dealer, January 12, 1965, Cleveland, Ohio.
Review and discussion of these articles keeps mambas of the committees up to date on the publicity Asbestos is receiving relative to Public Health.
Thee have been some customer inquiries about dust control. Each member company has the pamphlet "Method for-Determin ing Asbestos Dust Concentration", which they can forward to help educate their customers on testing dure concentra tion and also reconmending control where necessary.

Suggestion Systems
Reviewed the method used by each company relative to - who may participate, who accepts or rejects, who accesses the value and what is the reward for accepted suggestions.
Following are general procedures:
1* Hourly employees participate.
2, Separate participation for salaried employees.
3* Managsnent committee or Managgnenb and Employee ccnnittee accept or reject suggestion.
4. The value is accessed through complete investi gation of the auggestioxu
5* The reward is either a fixed amount or a pqcent of the first year's savings.
Host companies encourage suggestions as they are a very important part of the never ending search far operational improvements.
Variances - Production Control
Companies have diffwent means of finding where their
costs of manufacturing is off standard. Variance and
Production Control system immediately point out reduced

cause noted. By this method a more accurate control can
be placed on coats or corrections made when necessary and
the reason noted.
With todays cost of opcation, a system such as this is a most valuable asset to Management.

To date none of the mwnhg companies hare bad any compensation eases for loss of hearing. However, there is strong feeling among the committee that in the future the loss of hearing will be compensable. Ea*h of us should be ^riding to reduce noise to a safe level. This It so will be reviewed and current information relative to sane will be discussed periodically.
