USE OF VISBE3T0S IE DRILLING MOD
I have reviewed the information on Visbestos which you sent to us. As I noted in our discussion on the telephone, if you decide to use tins material in drilling mu d because o f the strong financial incentive involved, we would .recommend that air sampling he done to comply with OSHA. We should not rely on "he air sampling information supplied ty Montello. Mr. F. M. Parker, H I , Shell's Regional Industrial Hygienist for the western part of the U.S., h a the eauipment and training necessary to do this sampling in Utah. Mr. R. K. Jones is the Regional Industrial Hygienist covering Michigan. I cover Texas
and Oklahoma.
Also, as we discussed on the telephone, if the asbestos material is used, there will be additional expenses over and above those involved in air sampling which you should consider. These expenses are as follows:
1. Analytical expenses ($20-- $3Q per sample).
2. Expenses involved in any special work practices established for handling asbestos (respiratory protection, wet handling, cleanup).
3. Expenses involved in any medical surveillance program established (see Dr.
Joyner's and Mr. Kusnetz' memorandum of November 17, 1972 which you
received).

Please call me if I can be of any further assistance in this mather-
