Studies of health hazards in the insulation industry by our industrial hygiene engineers have identified a number of trade conditions of particular importance. Among these has been dust exposure associated with the use of asbestos cements,
Considering the question, it appeared that this exposure could be
considerably reduced by eliminating the open mixing of the cement
in troughs, etc. Studies Indicate that this is so. For example, . dust counts (optical microscopy) gave the following typical mix
levels with asbestos cement use:
Open mixing

cement
It is evident that fiber levels at the worksite can be reduced by mix ing cements within the bag, by one-half or teven nine-tenths.
Y/e therefore propose that this type of packaging would be a useful . one end suggest that your company should consider market lug as>bes>to5
cement products in plastic or other suitable bugs or containers, that would permit enclosed mixing.
She Johns-Manvilie Company has found an 8-all polyethylene beg
designed for valve filling with conventional valve bag* packing
equipment suitable for this purpose and, 1 understand, plan to
market cement in such bags shortly. 1 am sure that similar bags
could be obtained from other bag rnaaufacturers.
