What are your comments concerning products that are made of asbestos? I am speaking about certain laboratory pro ducts such as/ gloves, finger cots, mats, fire blankets, fume hotid liners, gasgets, etc. These products do not ordinarily liberate airborne fibers, however, age and useage can cause dusting. My real-question is, do these, and related-type products, come under 1910.1001? Thank you vety much for your cooperation. During normal use of the asbestos laboratory products named in your letter, exposures are expected to be low and thus would comply with the OSHA asbestos standard. The asbestos standard does apply during the manufacture, cutting, abrading, grinding, drilling, and sawing of these items, as well as during operations which involve cleaning, them with a wire brush-or extensive shaking (of fire blankets, for instance).
