In an attempt to conform to these OSHA regulations, I an submitting some "possible equals" to replace the gaskets we are now using per Celanese specifications. One of the most used gaskets is Gasket Code "D" spiral-wound S.S. with asbestos filler. Attached please find the "Flexitallic" General Catalog offering an assortment of fillers without asbestos. Per the local representative, the Plexite super non-asbestos chlorite/graphite paper gasket filler would be his suggestion as an equal for the Canadian asbestos paper filler. The other most used gasket is the Red Klingerite and has been requested to be used by the Celanese Maintenance Department in many applications. This gasket material was removed from the Celanese specifications in March of 1984. As you know Fluor Daniel has continued to use the Klingerite in applications, requested by Celanese and due to the asbestos content I have been requesting Gene Elliott to place the purchase orders. Attached please find the local representative's suggestion of Twicon II *469 and 443-A as an alternate to the Klingerite. I would appreciate it if you would review the attached suggestions and respond. There are other asbestos filled gaskets in the Celanese specifications which I plan on finding acceptable equals for and will bring to your attention in the future. However, the two gasket specifications I have mentioned above account for approximately 99k of the asbestos gaskets commonly used at Celanese, Salisbury.
