Examinations/Reports: Urine Drug Screens - 23 reported - all results OK. Preplacement Exams - Temporary 3; Regular 17 - All OK. Transport Drivers/DOT Recertification - One. Executive Exams - Six Medical Surveillance - Reports from HEI mobile van testing received for review and further action - LCVCM - 107; LCLAB - 43; Hammond - 20; (Hands-on to be scheduled during September for all three sites. Outside/Contract doctors are projected for exams at both LCVCM and LCLAB. I plan to perform these exams for employees at Hammond. Current plans are to combine these with the substance abuse policy presentation.) One urinary phenol for "emergency exposure" obtained for LCLAB employee - results were UNL - OK. X-Rays for exams done at Westlake and Hammond received for filling. I performed hands-on exams/reviews to Oklahoma City employees on August 14 and August 15. 2. Fitness/Health Center Still awaiting shower head for ladies' side. No use of sauna reported. Biggest activities for August were recorded for B.P. - 7; Equipment/exercise - 31; Aerobics - 11. Joggers using showers - 3. Log - sign up sheet in use now. Next meeting of Health Center Committee scheduled for September 6, 1989. Review of participation rate; new volunteer for aerobics instructor on current agenda. 3. Clinic Visits for August Were Increased Again: Treatment cases - 99; Blood Pressure determinations - 9; Medical consultations - 23; Injections - 15; Preplacement/New Hires - 2; Safety Glasses - 5; Overseas Kits 3; Occupational Injury Treatment - 1. (Total - 157) Telephone and hallway consultations not included in these totals. 4 . First Aid/CPR Training: Susan Smith provided EFA/CPR training to 17 employees at Premiere Polymers and 44 for Ashford VII employees. (All 8 hours as required for certification.) 5. Substance Abuse Issues: Continued discussions relative to non*represented policy and administrative guidelines with team and senior management representatives. Next VMD 723495 presentation tentatively scheduled for September 8. Participated in arbitration case at Aberdeen. Both arbitrator and union representatives showed strong interest in substance abuse problems and their resolutions especially for in plant. One new self-admit case for Uestlake recorded. One successful completion of Aftercare for Westlake employee documented and questionable participation by two other Westlake employees in Aftercare under review. I plan to meet with representatives of "New Beginnings" chemical dependency treatment center, West Cal-Cain Hospital, Sulphur, La. on September 6, 1989 as the recent self-admit chose this facility instead of the most recommended one in Lake Charles. Arrangements made to tour Faulken Hospital, Austin, on September 15, 1989. This facility will be used, if needed, for R & D personnel and their staff will provide the supervisor training for R & D at a yet-to-be determined date. 6. CDIP Status Report: For July, 1989, Five employees were reported as exceeding the three month absence period - Baltimore - 2; Aberdeen 1; Blane - 2. Medical comments/updates provided to Employee Benefits as per request. 7. Participated in further development of Questions and Answers document for LCVCM use in the brain tumor issues. Plans completed for provision at company expense of neurosurgical consultations for LCVCM employees, having over 10 years work with Vista Chemical. Posting of notice planned for postLabor Day with 90 day period beginning September 7, 1989 offered to employees who elect to have the exams. 8. Discussions continuing with Health Examinetics, San Diego, for 1990 prices for medical surveillance exams at Vista locations, HEI has now changed multiphasic laboratories from MetPath to Damon * DFW facility. Appropriate documentation for federal approval for performing blood lead level determinations requested as two Vista sites require these tests and NIOSH approval required. Due to budget concerns, renewed requests received from several plant sites to obtain medical surveillance testing "locally" and hopefully at reduced prices for HEI quotes. (HEI currently handles all administrative functions for Vista in regards to computerization/comparison of previous VMD 723496 data; production of summary reports, etc. We will lose that function and have to provide it some other way if "local options" used.
