In addition, below is a detailed overview of the presentations: Rep. Jordan should speak for 10 minutes (before dinner). Administrator Pruitt should speak for IO minutes, and will speak after the main course. After Pruitt, John Malcolm will come up and Rep. Jordan will return to the stage for a moderated Q&A led by John Malcolm (the Heritage Foundation). The topic: Why And How We Can Limit The Federal Government Rep. Jordan should draw from his time as a leader in the Ohio State House as well as his work in the Congress to explain the need to limit the government, the frustrations in moving in this direction, and an idea of the way forward. The recent AHCA and Omnibus are good illustrations. And it might be good to let them know about a few upcoming issues. The audience is made up of leaders of think tanks, policy experts and donors. The theme of the conference is "Rise to the Challenge." He should definitely give the audience a stake in the fights ahead and some suggestions of what they can do to help tum the country around. Administrator Pruitt's experience in the states as a leader among the attorneys general will also bring an added perspective to his comments. He should remind the audience of some of the fights he was engaged in with the Obama Administration ( and just how bad it was). His selection as EPA Administrator (and maybe mention Sen. Sessions as AG and others now in the Administration who have fought hard to rollback and contain the power of the federal government) should give us hope. The Executive Orders and review of regulations are other ways the Administration is beginning to turn the corner. Both can speak as allies who have looked at Washington as a problem. They have led in the states. They have taken the federal government to court. They inspire others to do the same. John Malcolm's moderated Q&A will be more of a conversation to draw out some of these themes, point out the different roles the states and Congress have in these fights and tease out a few of the ideas of the way forward.
