Asbestos Monitoring at Institute Plant
Attached are the results of exposure monitoring conducted on February 27, 1985 while construction employees stripped approximately 40 feet of old insulation from steam lines at the MIC unit.
Two construction employees were used on the job with one insulator to strip the insulation and one laborer to man the water hose and help with clean up. Both employees were protected by the use of cartridge respirators, coveralls, gloves, and boots. The area was barricaded and a water spray was used to wet the insulation material. The majority of time spent on the job involved cleaning up of the stripped insulation.
Both samples were found to contain levels of asbestos fibers well below the permissible exposure level of 2.0 fibers/cc of air.
