Krummrich plant today to interview plant management on the topics of products manufactured at the plant, our environmental programs, and the recent consent agreement to study the former Krummrich landfill. After conducting product and environmental briefings, McMurray was taken on a tour of the plant which highlighted the Paradichlorobenzene (PDCB) Crystallizer and Tire Derived Fuel projects. He was also shown the former Krummrich landfill. The reporter specifically inquired about: manufacturing process changes necessary to achieve a 90% reduction in air emissions; wastewater pre treatment; the American Bottoms consent decree; raw material cost savings related to the PDCB Crystallizer; and, the contents of the landfill. Based on recent planning for the public hearing on the landfill and related Sauget Sites issues, plant management was able to address the reporter's questions, and emphasize our key messages. McMurray was scheduled to interview Illinois EPA personnel following the Krummrich visit, and indicated he may have follow up questions. It appears that the reporter plans a story on Sauget Sites as a heavily polluted industrial area in need of remediation, although his specific intent is unclear. Timing for article publication cannot be determined at this time. In a separate matter, Marc Levinson, a reporter with Newsweek. will be provided a tour, and conduct interviews at the Krummrich plant on the topic of global competition and production efficiencies on Wednesday, April 22.
