But tlie problem of kecoing up with a growing city's thirst is no small one, particularly when that city happens to he the most populous of any m the western hemisphere.
Prior to 1917, New York obtained its water supply from the drainage area of the Croton River and from wells in Nassau County and in the horough of Brooklyn, hi ihat year Catskili mountain water became available. In 1 916 additional supplies from the water sheds of Schoharie and Jfsopus creeks were impounded in the Schoharie and Ashokun reservoirs, the chief collecting centers for the Caisktll svsrem.
