It is our contention that non-asbestos lining brakes should be , compatible in brake balance and other performance measures, to the asbestos lining brakes that they will gradually replace. A typical trailer axle 16 1/2" X 7" brake equipped with type 30 air chambers, 6" slack adjusters (180 A/L factor), and EE/FF standard trailer axle brake lining, will produce a retardation of .41/.45 at 80 psi. ' Abex and Carlisle have developed a lower medium level non-asbestos brake lining for trailer axle application. These linings have a lov FF friction level and will produce a retardation of .41/.45 at 80 psi when installed on a 16 1/2" X 7" Eaton single anchor pin brake equipped with type 30 air chambers, 6" slack adjusters (180 A/L factor).
