Request for Experimental Plant Production
ox-101 Modified Ellnoisa
Attached to this letter la a Her .last far Experimental Plant Production. The product will be a modification of the current Xilaolse and will be designated OX-101.
The current Xilneise contains 10% asbestos. Asbestos is under attack as a toxic subatanca and we believe that if OX-1C1 ia successful, it will replace the current product. Zf such a substitute is not developed, it Is very probable that Xllnoisa may have to ba withdraws iron tha market saee time In the future.
Kllnaise is presently being used on a Toronto subway job and Salsa has reported that the job has been shut down. Xf the contractor agraes to certain expensive and cumber some measures to prevent exposure of workmen to hassrdbos asbestos levels, he may continue. The restrictions are ao severe, however, that It may well prevent further use of asbestos containing products.
GZ-101 is to be made ia the existing nilnoiss equipment.
The plant operators have pointed out thet mineral wool
normally cones in a sore or less compact form and must be
`fluffed* before use. For the initial experimental work,
it nay be necessary to purchase mineral wool la loose
fora or to fluff it by hand. Future regular production
would require special equipoeat for handling mineral wool.
Plant personnel will look into the problem and make
recommendations.
\
The plant will be charged with the responsibility for keeping an account of ehargss Incurred in tha experimental work. Sueh charges should be accumulated in a Plant
Development Center Account. After e review of the product (at e later date), the Development Center Account will be closed out and charges applied to either finished goods

Tha plar.t will be asked to develop a standard cost of goods for the new product in the event it prove* marketable. The standard cost oust be detoreiined before the new product can have a 10 digit code assigned and be sold.
When OX-101 has been node, Seles will arrange fer a test of the new product, ho problems are anticipated, but we suet make sure that OX-101 is at laaat equal to regular Kilaolse la ell respects.
02-101 Is not being made for any specific easterner. If it proves nar/.etable, it will be a substitute for regular Xllnoiae end would ba Sold on tha open Basket under the currant Kilaolse 10 digit code.
K pricing recoscaendatlon can ba Bade only after an analysis
of a new cost sheet to be worked up at the plant. The raw aaterial cost is expected to ba very nearly the acne as eurrent Kilaolse. Xf tpaeial ainarai wool handling eguipnent is required, s o b * increase in cost ia expected.
If you approve of this project, please sign the Reguest form and aend it to tha Production Ospartsent for approval.

Product a nidified Kilnoise product having the following foramjat
89 Autoclaved Lise 10 % Mineral Wool
0.75t Foaming Agent 0.25% Class Fiber
Motet This modification represents a direct pound for pound replacement of mineral wool for asbestos in the current formula.
This product will provide an asbestes-free acoustical plaster which will be acceptable under current and possible future standards relating to use of toxic materials.
If tests of this product, are successful, it will probably be a replace ment for present Xilnoise.
